SCIENTIFIC FACTS ABOUT GOU
Indian Cow breeds
The Indian cow is known as “Kamadhenu”, derived from the name of the divine bovine-goddess described in Hinduism as the mother of all cows. Kamadhenu is a miraculous cow of plenty who provides her owner with whatever they desire.
Indian cow breeds are unique and distinct in both appearance and characteristics. The indigenous cattle, scientifically called Bos indicus or Zebu cattle are thought to be the world’s oldest domesticated cattle, mainly inhabiting the Indian subcontinent. Also, historically it’s proven that humped cattle remains found in the Mohenjo-Daro site of the Indus Valley indicate the presence of cattle in India even before the arrival of Aryans. High shoulder, flappy under-neck, and hump on the back are easy differentiators of the variety.
